2 METER QUAD ANTENNA

The boom is 4 feet long 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" square dry fir. Straight
and light . Element spreaders are made from 3/8" dowels.
2 pcs. at 30 15/16" Reflector
2 pcs. at 29 3/16" Driven element
4 pcs. at 27 3/4" Directors
Plexiglas insulators made from 1/8" stock. Dimensions are
triangular 2" x 2"x 2 3/4". Two required, one for the feed point
and the other for the SWR adjustment jumper. The elements are
made from insulated #14 solid copper flameseal building wire. You
will need about 22 feet.
Hardware: 4 #6 nuts and bolts for the insulator posts. Wire for
lashing the insulators to the spreaders. I used a 1" pipe clamp
to fasten the antenna to a 1" plastic water pipe for
support.Waterproof glue, paint and Duxseal for weatherproofing
the connections on the insulators.

CONSTRUCTION

First cut and drill the spreaders. Cut to the lengths as shown
above and drill the holes for the insulated #14 wire 1/2" from
the ends of the spreaders, be sure to line up the holes in the
same plane.
Next cut and drill the boom. In one plane only (like you are
making a Yagi) drill 3/8" holes for the spreaders. Center the
holes for the end elements 3" from the end of the boom. Drill the
hole for the first director 13" from the second director center
to center. You should now have 16" from the center of the
reflector to the center of the driven element.
Put one reflector, one driven and two director spreaders though
their respective holes and glue into position making sure that
the holes in the spreaders are at right angles to the length of
the boom. After the glue is dry, drill the boom for the other
spreaders drilling through the previously glued ones.Glue in the
remaining spreaders and let dry.The whole assembly should then be
painted with a good quality exterior paint to protect it from the
weather.
Run the insulated wire through the holes in the spreaders in the
reflector and the two directors baring the ends and twisting
until tight.Solder and tape each one for a good connection.
Fasten the insulators to the boom on opposite ends of the
horizontal dowel of the driven element with short pieces of wire.
Run the wire from one insulator to the opposite one securing the
bared ends to the insulator with the machine screws.
At one insulator connect a short jumper between the two screws
for SWR adjustment and at the other one connect the inner and
outer conductors of the RG58 or RG8 co-ax cable. After the
antenna is tuned seal the end of the co-ax cable and the two
insulators with Duxseal in order to prevent corrosion of the
connections.
