Broad Outline of VHF and UHF Bands

30- 50 VHF Low Band
50- 54 Ham radio - 6 meters
54- 72 VHF TV channels 2 - 4
72- 76 Low power industial communications, remote control,
paging, plant control, telemetry, and signaling. 250
watt military.
76- 88 Television channels 5 & 6
88-108 FM broadcast
108-118 Aeronautical radio beacons (VOR). Signals are AM Morse
code (MCW) with some AM radio-telephone messages.
118-136 AM Aircraft communications, air-to-air and ground to air.
136-138 Earth satellites, mostly FM telemetry, weather satellites.
138-144 A government band, military, CAP & MARS stations.
144-148 Ham radio - 2 meters
148-150.8 Another exclusive government band, same as 138-144.
150.8-162 VHF High Band; land mobile, maritime mobile, public safety.
162-173.4 Government and military communications; FBI, FCC, Customs,
VA, USAF, USN, US Army, NASA -- just about every government
entity with a radio.
173.4-174 A business band; oil companies, news media, taxi cabs, trucks
and other radio dispatched services.
174-216 VHF TV high band - (channels 7 - 13)
216-220 Navigation band; mostly beacon type sending coded (data)
information for boaters.
220-225 Amateur radio 1 1/4 meter band.
225-400 Military aeronautical and satellite communications. AM voice
between Space Shuttle and ground tracking on 259.7 or 296.8.
Military airacraft (AM), ground and satellite links (FM)--usually
scrambled.
400-406 Telemetry from weather probes, balloons and remote weather
sensing stations.
406-420 Federal Government Land Mobile
420-450 Amateur radio 3/4 meter band. CW, AM, SSB, RTTY, ASCII and TV.
450-470 UHF land mobile
470-512 UHF Extended (also UHF TV channels 14 - 20)
512-806 UHF TV channels 21 - 69
806-890 Formerly UHF TV channels 70 - 83
806-825 Land Mobile - conventional and trunked systems
825-851 Cellular Mobile Radio
851-870 Land Mobile - conventional and trunked systems
870-902 Cellular Mobile Radio
902-912 Automatic Vehical Monitoring (AVM) Systems
912-918 Industrial, Scientific, Medical
918-928 Automatic Vehical Monitoring (AVM) Systems
