I was talkin to some annoying christian girl in class today and i told her to shut up and then she went on a big spiel about me not loving jesus and blah blah and i was getting bored of her complaining and i remembered something i thought about before and then asked her why does the bible say not to idolize anyone... thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard christianity is all about idolizng and worshipping someone.
can anyone explain this to me

The bible portrays a jealous(in a very good way) God who only wants you to worship him and only him.

you should really listen to these evangelists they've got running around over here, telling everyone to repent, for the end is near, and jesus is the only way to the TRUE kingdom of god...which leaves the question: is there a false kingdom of god? i can't remember how many times some of my friends have tried to convert me. if people don't want to be converted, they shouldn't have to be. did jesus evangelize like this? nooo...he taught. if jesus tried to convert me, i'd at least listen, but these crazy little shits they've got running around here, i don't know what to think

The whole idea of christianity is pretty backward. Jesus (as far as actual accounts go of his possible actions) seemed to try to get people to get along, love each other, and be a good JEW!!! Thats right, not only was he jewish, but he was a masterfully devout jew. Its ridiculous that the proceeding "prophets" created a different religion which worships a human being.
And for this matter, why is the bible so goddamn important? Ole' Heysoos only had the old testy-mint to work with; why shd you new school goofballs go adding a ton of shit onto what was supposedly the word of god?
I just...dont...get it sometimes.

well you must understand...these new 'prophets' were possessed by the 'spirit of god' when they began to write the new testament. they had tongues of fire, and everything. it was great. hurrah, for revolution. new way of thinking.
that's why i like chasidic jews. they recognize jesus as a great mediator, but keep the faith of their ancestors; factoring in the part of the 'son o' the big G.'
yeah, ok, kind of rambling. belive what you wanna, or don't. you're all going to BURN IN HELLFIRE, ANYWAYS!!!!MWAHAHAHAHA!

It seemed wholly appropriate.
Edit: The misspelling of Jesus is purposeful.

the bible is the stupidest book ever written. It is some gay ass interpretation of the teachings of god. I hope the crazy bastard who wrote it died while his dong turned black and fell off.

Scary as it may seem, Hammer, I am an atheist, and agree completely with you. I think, for the most part, the teachings truly attributed to Jesus are pretty intelligent and well-meant, unlike what most of the churches created in his name have propogated throughout the years.
One opinion I have returned to after my years of religious study is the fact that most religions centered around Jesus (be they catholic, protestant or orthodox) have mixed up, added, or simply forgotten a decently large portion of what is agreed to be the core of Jesus' teachings. A shame, I'd say, since (as we've both noted) they're quite decent and empowering.
