Who was this woman? I have heard that she was the spouse of Jesus the Catholic church doesn't want you to know about. I have also heard that she being the spouse of Jesus makes her the second most important person in the Christian religion, she was ment to carry on the teachings of Jesus the way they were MENT to be carried on, but she was killed and her teachings were put to a stop because she was a woman. I guess she was in Davincis 'The last Supper', sitting next to jesus, and there was massive amounts of symbolism about their positions in the picture.

What do you people know about this?

from what I'd heard, Mary Magdalene is a prostitute that Jesus slept with. Or She was his wife. Or some such shit, *shrugs*. My memorryyyyyyy ..... uhhhhh *cries*

There's a good documentary on this on the Discovery Channel, I think the series is Ancient Evidence. Anyway, what they said was that she wasn't Jesus's wife, but that she was a diciple. The diciples used to argue with each other about who Jesus favored most. Apocrophyl texts (biblical writing that didn't make the edit in the bible) suggest that she was actually the most favored of the diciples, andthis pissed off the rest of them, especially Peter, who set up the church. She got defamed as a prositute, and was never allowed to put the teachings related to her in with the rest of the guys. Kind of obvious that they were more than a little mysoginistic in those days.

Peter, Paul, and Augustine were definitely sexist and twisted the teachings of a man who was not god but well above many other men.

He sat next to Samaritan woman and asked her for a drink. In Judea at the time that was HUGE step.

There is a story from the bible that I have heard many times over the years (at Church). Jesus came across a woman being stoned for prostitution. Jesus stopped the people from stoning her and saved her life. She became close to Jesus and was one of his diciples (sp). She also became very close with Jesus' mother, Mary. The bible never mentions her being Jesus' wife. That would not make sense in a Christians mind anyway.. to them Jesus was without sin, and intercorse, even with a spouse is a sin. But who is to say it was true or not.

(By the way, I was a Catholic for about 14 years. But a year or so ago I realized that Christianity (sp) is illogical).

Wait, so doing the only thing that keeps the human race on this earth (having intercourse.. reproducing) is a sin? So what is that suggesting.. That we all die because we don't have any offspring, therefore don't sin? wierd

According to the Bible, yes. That is why in alot of societies (sp) virgins are considered extremely pure and innocent; that have not yet gained the sin of intercourse.

It is not suggesting that we stop reproducing. God (suposivley (sp)) didn't create us perfect. He knows that we will eventually give in to temptations. (i.e The Lord's Prayer.. "lead us not into temptation but deliever us from evil...")

That right there just pushes me even further from Christianity.

But, I learned something from it..

Now it makes sense why Nuns and Priests don't have sex...

...well, then there's Father Paul and little Jimmy.

EDIT: doesn't push me further from religion as a whole. After all, other religions are less ridiculous and more 'find a path to happiness, that is the true purpose of life'. I like that.
