Why can't people just respect religions?

I'm getting a lot of people blatantly put down all sorts of religion and say that people that believe in God are ignorant.

Now, I respect the right to be an aetheist, but I also respect the right to believe in a religion. I don't think people who believe in stuff are ignorant (on less it's something like naziism) but more that people who believe anyone with a religion is ignorant.

I feel there are flaws with every religion and perhaps many of those are there just to act as opiates or to take our worries away, but there is no way of proving or disproving the fact that there could be something out there. No way of disproving that there is a higher power beyond our control.
