It's said by some that the physical body is not needed for consciousness to exist. Some even go on to say that one day it will be revealed to us that existing in the physical is exactly what is holding us back from truly being free and happy...In fact if you think about it, if you died today as well as all of the other creatures in the world, the universe would still go on fine just existing. So the question I pose is this: If you believe consciousness and the universe can exist without human beings or animals, then why do human beings and animals exist? If we never needed these bodies, then why do we have them? (Obviously this question wouldn't be aimed at atheists or people who believe there is nothing without a physical body)
Some say it's mainly because of desire alone, but I'd like to hear totse thoughts on this.
