Despite Katie Holmes' Catholic upbringing, there will be no baptism for the first fruit of her labor.

"You can be Catholic and be a Scientologist. You can be Jewish and be a Scientologist," Tom Cruise--movie star and male half of the relationship otherwise known as TomKat--told Diane Sawyer in an interview scheduled to air Friday on ABC's Primetime. "But we're just Scientologists."

Is Scientology a religion or not? If it is, then no, you can't be a Catholic and a Scientologist any more than you could be a Muslim and a Scientologist. If it's not, then why did Isaac Hayes leave South Park? He left because the show was "intolerant" towards his religion, right?

Tom Cruise is a moron.

Although scientology claims it's compatible with other religions it is not. Besides other conflicting views the Xenu story directly attacks all other religions. Thetans were programed with what we know as the worlds religions, especially the crucifixion, they stick to us making us believe these false beliefs (at least that's how I understand it). This story isn't told to new scientologists but only to those who have reached a certain "level" (read, brainwashed).

It's pretty common for new-age cults to claim compatibility with other religions, especially christianity. Sometimes latching onto Jesus as being a real miracle worker, just different than what christianity says. It makes it easier to lure new members.

The first sentence to come up on Wikipedia for "Scientology":

Scientology is a new religious movement based on a system of beliefs, teachings, practices, and rituals that was originated as a philosophy in 1952 by science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. It was characterized by the Church of Scientology in 1953 as an "applied religious philosophy".

Doesn't there need to be a specific god being worshipped in order for it to be a real religion? Buddhism isn't a real religion, because the Buddah is not a god. Scientology seems to be more of a philisophical and scientific examination of life (like Buddhism), not a real religion.

I mean this thread somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but if Scientology is a real religion, then how many religions can one person believe in?
