I have this friend and a while back he got another friend of mine inpregnated. This is when I found out he was antiabortion. I'd never known before. In fact, when he told me he was antiabortion I laughed because I thought he was joking. But, he was a serious. Then I asked if he was Christian or something and he told me he was and I was like "Okay. Good to know." Of course, I'm not antiabortion but when she decided to get the abortion and not tell him I thought that was wrong.
No. 1: That's a major decision to make without at least telling the other partner.
No. 2: Why should she let him get off that easy?
But, that's just my opinion. And later on I told him about the abortion in confidence because I just thought it was a really wrong thing to do to someone who is supposed to be your friend. And he may be antiabortion but he's not an asshole. If she had insisted on getting the abortion he wouldn't've condoned it but he would've been an asshole about it.
Anyways, so months pass and the other night he comes into the bar while I'm working and sits down. We're having a few drinks, talking, and laughing. We're making lewd comments about the girls around us and suddenly I just really wanted to know...
"Can I ask you a very personal question?"
"Uh... yea. What is it?"
That's when I realized "You know, this sounds so wierd and there's no reason it should sound this wierd!"
"What about?"
"I feel like I'm about to ask you something dirty or something!"
"Uh... Do I really want to know?"
"It's really no big deal. I just want to know if you, like, you know... pray?" and I'm sitting there blushing and grinning as if I'd just asked him what kind of porn he jerks off to. But, he just laughs and asks why I want to know.
"I don't know. I just want to know." and then we start talking about how wierd it is to discuss something like that. Like how he and I talk about every disgusting, dirty, nasty sex thing with each other but asking if he prays feels so awkward and shy.
"Yea. I pray." He says. "I like to talk to God. Sometimes I just pray to tell him good job on the nice day."
"That's cool." I tell him and then he asks me if I pray. I tell him "I do. Probably not on a daily basis, but I'm not one of those stictly 'pray-when-times-are-rough' types. I do some form of it several times a week I'd say."
And the conversation went on from there getting progressively less awkward, but it was all a little awkward. I guess he felt awkward about it because he probably thought I was about to tell him I think it's stupid or something, but I don't. I don't think anything people do to make themselves feel better about their lives (as long as it's not detrimental to their health) is a good thing.
I just thought it was interesting.
Cheers,

your full of shit for writing that
1...if he wants the kid let him have it,
- It wasn't my decision. It was hers.
2...if he agrees to the responsibilty whats the problem.
- If she didn't want to have the baby it would be a big problem.
3...abortion is murder except for rape victims.
- Well, that's convenient... Look, you have your opinions, I have mine. Frankly I don't care how many fucked up children people like you force into this over-populated world and it's not that I don't think abortion is murder, because I more or less do. But, it's of my personal opinion that murder can be justified. But, really, if you're going to say abortion is wrong because it's murder don't turn around and say "except for rape victims." Because that implies that it's more justified to murder the innocent fetus of a rape victim than it is to murder an innocent fetus concieved from a married couple who are in love.
The fact is is that people die and babies die all the time. People kill people and are killed by other people every day. It's mentioned in the bible in several places that murder can be justified and forgiven. I just don't believe murder - especially of a fetus that barely qualifies as alive anyway - can't be justified. And abortion is a terrible thing to do, but people do all kinds of terrible things to each other all the time. I'm not saying this is okay, but I'm saying it happens.
I don't really think god is as judgemental as we've been brought to believe. I don't think I'm incredibly significant to god and I believe a fetus would be even more insignificant.
That's just my personal opinion and I don't subscribe to a doctrine.

Mighty strong words from someone who "doesn't care".
To answer the thread starter, I don't come from circles where "prayer" is a bad word. I sense a guilty conscience, and a hyersensitivity to offense.
I find it sad that it seems taboo for you to talk about prayer, but maybe talking about it in a BAR, with your "Christian" friend who talks with you at great length about various sexual topics, could have contributed to your feelings of uneasiness.
Thanks for sharing the experience, though. It was raw, as ever.

Lost, I think you've taken notice to something very interesting. I've seen it too. Its bizarre how people can talk about necrobeastiality without batting an eyelash, but mentioning something like prayer or God can turn someone three shades of red.
It never ceases to amaze me why people flame another human being over believing in God - whether it be Judeo-Christian or otherwise. Why do people feel the unabashed need to demoralize their faith in something that transcends themselves?
That was a good story. Thanks for sharing.

But sending troops into the middle east killing thousands is most curtainly not murder huh. Face it, we are all animals here. We murder, and we do much worse things. Get over it, because this planet was doomed the second man evolved from lesser organisms.
