Ok I will delete this if it turns into a slanging match, but I'm interested...
I have been revising for exams over past few weeks on the study of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt...
Now there are a few things I have picked up and I want a Christian opinion on HOW exactly these similarities have occured.
1) Sargon of Akkad - Founder of the Akkadian Empire (A guy that actually existed but was deified in his own lifetime)... He was born to a god and a lowly woman, put in a reed basket and floated down a river until he was discovered by a girl who was a servant of the goddess Ishtar who looked after him.
The Egyptian god Horus was also put in a basket and floated by Isis on the Nile delta to protect him from enemies.
The connection here is obviously Moses...
2) The story of the flood - There are many Sumerian myths of the great flood, but the one I had to learn concerns a man named Ut-Napishtim who the god Ea (speaking through the reed walls of his hut) told to abandon his house and possessions and build a boat on which to store the "seed of all living things".
The connection => Noah. (Incidentally there have been only 3 finds in Mesopotamian settlements of alluvial material being laid down in the character of a great deluge).
3) Egyptian sun disks... Saints halos????
4) Memphite creation myth - The Egyptian God Ptah created the world and things in it by speaking, very similar to the Genisis creation story.
5) One thing I picked up (when revising Sargon) is that Krisna was brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh when he was born.
Cheers

Yeah. There isn't a single original element to Christianity, and not many to Judeaism.

...If God created the world then Christianity is the first religion...So its the egyptians and other religions that are lacking originality.

Except that there are three religions that have you jesus myth, near verbatim, that all predate Christ, even the newest of which beats him by more than a century.

The Sumerian and Egyptian religions are older than the Christian religion.
In the case of the sun disks/saints halos, Egypt cannot be the unoriginal source as there is no Christian art that predates it.

Hahaha! Even if your gawd really did create the world, Judaism would be the first religion, not Christianity.
Dumbass.

Heres a random one: Jesus hung on the Cross for three hours. The Norse god Odin hung on Yggdrasill for nine days. 9/3=3 . Sorry I just had the urge to post that they both were stapled to trees.
