Opus Dei

I'm watching a history channel thing on OD, and it's gotta be the wierdest religious thing I've heard about since I read up on scientology.

At first I thought OD was kinda cool, but then I started to hear about the "numerators", who live in the OD centers, hurt themselves, aren't allowed to talk to their families, can only watch certain television and movies, and give all their money to organization.

So my opinion on OD is that it's probibly a cult, and that it's bad. I should read the Time article on it later. I'll post that if you guys are interested.

What are your thoughts?

You should really read the Time article before you judge. It's a very well written article, and I think it presents the most accurate depiction of Opus Dei that I've ever seen.

It isn't a cult, but it also certainly isn't some normal sect of Catholicism. I think the TIME article does a good job of presenting that.

Be careful, a lot of hatered about Opus Dei has come from Dan Browns the Da vinci code, the opus dei are peaceful.

i read that. it was written well. i still feel that it didnt tell everything. damn the da vinci code anyway. and, i just don't like catholics.

OD isnt a cult or anything, im pretty sure it was set up by some VERY devout christians who wanted to go gods work, i think thats what OD stands for gods work?

They thought they shoiuld go back to traditional christian roots such as corporal punnishment (sp?) and such, dont believe what the da vinci code tells you
