The Sun God

[CatharticWeek]

So, under the influence of an interesting substance I went for a walk the other day.

I'm an agnostic, but lately I've been nurturing my spiritual side.

I stumbled into a clearing, walked to the end of it and looked down a sheer cliff.

I turned, and was overwhelmed.

The sun was framed perfectly by the tree canopy. The sunrays cast a brilliant golden glow across the many trees while the sun shone strongly on my face.

I thought to myself, surely this is god, and I dropped to my knees.

The sun, giver of all life on earth. It fits all my ideas about god.

God is an impartial observer, god's job is merely to keep the wheels turning.

The first monotheist worship in the world was brought about by Amenhotep IV who declared Aton the only god, even going as far as to erase evidence of other gods.

Frankly, this makes sense to me. It makes a lot of sense.

Pagan worship of the sun was ended with the christian church superimposing the events of easter and christmas over the solsace celebrations in winter and summer which is a shame.

Because as far as I'm concerned, this viewpoint, the first monotheist religion, was spot on.

Thoughts, comments?

So...from the Sun God...

to the Son of God???

********

[a thought I had when I was younger]

I wish I had a real response to this...it's just that...I believe in experiencing 'the sacred' in everyday life. But...I'm struggling with defining it...actually...the need to define it.

I no longer feel the need to define it...I just 'know' that it is there to be known...

[Zinkovich]

Read Thomas Paine. He had similar notions back in the days of Jefferson.

Well presumably my hand only exists because of the sun, so yes. My touch is the touch of god.

But as is everything.

To Zinkovich, thank you! I looked up the fellow on Wikipedia, it really does echo a lot of what I think.

[MasterPython]

So worship the Sun and pray to Joe Pesci.

I worship what I believe is the largest and most powerful all encompassing thing ever, Ultimate Reality I call it, God otherwise. The Sun is within the Solar System which is within the Universe which is within Reality which is one of an infinite number within Ultimate Reality the All Encompassing, what we are made of, dependant on, existing by.

The sun is a beautiful gift to be appreciated, it is not even a speck in comparison to the infinite size of my God, the one to whom the Sun submits, is dependant on, and exists by.

I still struggle with the concept of 'worship'...
