It seems to me like most of the problems in todays' world are rooted in peoples' religious beliefs.

Aside from your criminal-minded folks who don't give a fuck, the haves vs. the have-nots and the greed and oppression that goes with that.

I would get shunned at work for even suggesting something so horrible, but when you look around, past and present, doesn't it seem religion plays the largest role in societal conflicts?

Sorry if this is an old topic.. 1st post in this forum I think.

Religion has been used for many negative things throughout history. Look at India, they used Hinduism to set up a caste system. Blame the religion? Or the people who took advantage of their positions?

As much as I hate religion,

I'd say it's not the root cause

of all that shit.

It surely isn't helping though.

The Inquisitions, and on and on. I wouldn't say it's "reponsible," just a schlocky but effective psychological device to direct the hate, rage, and frustration inherent to people. Coming up with some screwball pie-in-the-sky excuse to screw over, torture the shit out of, or kill someone(s) after labelling them their "hate group" is easily done via religion. Of course some folks managed it quite well without (Hitler, Pol Pot, the Rhwandan mobs, etc.) but a bunch of vague and nonsensical "Holy" text comes in real handy sometimes for those aspiring to get one group to fuck over or pulverize another.

I don't work anywhere pro religion per se, it just seems that most people in general go into shock if you question Gods' existence for example.

It's not so much religion that's the problem, it's irrationality and the inability to think logically that's prevalent in so many places. Religion is the major side effect of that kind of mindset; when one doesn't know how to think things through and arrive at a plausible and rational conclusion to a problem, it's easy to think "LOL GOD did it." That kind of emotionalistic crap leads to conflict, oppression and death. It's no accident that the more secular nations of the world have a higher quality of life on average.

If you believe in evolution,

wouldn't tribalism and brutality

have been major factors in

making humans a dominant species?

Maybe we are just wired that way?

I know that truly we are perfect

creatures designed by a loving

engineer, but some people have

those crazy ideas...

Oh it wouldnt be because of a particular place that you live in would it or is it just happen that a lot of them are christian. although i suppose thats the way it is in a lot of places, unless you work at a 7 11... ok im going to stop talking. oh yea i guess its not necessarily a root for all problems but more of a reason for people to hate everyone else. ok now im really going to stop talking.
