Atheism: A contradiction of itself?

I was talking to someone today, and they said that Atheism was a contradiction of itself. He really had nothing to say after that other than agnosticism is the way to go. Is there anyone else here who believes the same and would enlighten me as to why that can even be true? Is there anyone else who thinks the same way as him? If not, just let this thread die.
