Its playing games with gods methods of creation. But the same person who ses that would most likely also say god has a divine plan and everything happens for a reason.

As far as I know, genetic engineering in terms of mammals is totally not acceptable in the Catholic Church. The Mormons are the ones that say "Well I believe God made that science for us to use it." Catholics don't say that. However, if we are talking about genetic engineering in terms of Botany, then that would be acceptable to every religion and non religion. Agriculture is in part what created civilization. No religion, that I know of, would dare challenge something as fundamental to human life as that.
