So Yesterday In Confirmation Class
I was laughed at for trying to explain the irrational concept of god "saving" us from himself. If he's god, he could ultimately do with us whatever he wants, yes? There's no reason he couldn't stop us from going to hell if he didn't "save" us.
When I was finished, the pastor had the audacity to ask if I was going to major in Philosophy.
I feel that now I review this religion and it's scripture as fiction. Perhaps some religions have truth at their core, but I feel that the major modern-day religions are evolved and repackaged sun-worship.
Also, the class naively agreed that evolution was too "far-fetched".
I'm not sure if I can stand this waste of a class anymore.
Discuss.

Re: So Yesterday In Confirmation Class
Evolution is far fetched???
Compared to *POOF!* "Welcome to earth"???
Yes, this class is a waste of your time, unless you like punching your ideas at a logic stopping brick wall built by the mind virus of theism.
Never doubt the power of human delusion especailly when it comes to matters of the heart:
Douchebag 1:"I wish granny wasn't just down there rotting in the ground"
Douchebag 2:"She's not, you'll see her again someday"
Douchebag 1:"Shit, okay I REALLY want to believe that so I will."

It seems most people simply have general misconceptions of evolution. It's sad that many people just simply don't understand it, believing in lamarckian evolution and some notion that 'we came from monkeys' or fish or some other wacky misconception.
Maybe you should ask how Noah could've put only a few animals of each specie on his ark and yet end up with so many varieties of each...(ex. polar bear, grizzly bear, etc) Unless they want to admit that Noah could fit 100 million different animals on a boat, lulz.
Btw, this class sounds fun as hell. I'd pay to be surrounded by Biblical literalists, I'm so curious how they'd respond to what the bible really says (and they love to ignore).

*raises hand*
"God did it"
(This will be my answer to your next 4 questions, the next 2 after that, will be "I know you are but what am I" and the third will involve rubber and glue some bouncing and sticking.)

Dude, it's not worth going to that shit. I did for a long time before I figured out it was all bullshit and left. If there was free food or something it would be different, but there wasn't.

He said confirmation class. Confirmation is the Catholic Sacrament that ostentatiously indicates passage to adulthood in the eyes of the Church. It's mostly like a somewhat less elaborate Catholic Bar Mitzva. So, basically, you'd have to disguise yourself as a 12-13 year old Catholic to get to go take the class :P
I'm sure there are adult versions, but those are probably handles by people with some basic kind of qualification, whereas at least my youth one was handled by volunteers who had their emotions and theism raped by a pack of pre-teens on a weekly basis. And then at the end of the year, we passed a basic test, and were allowed to eat that tasty tasty cardboard and received piles of money from family. All in all, not a bad system, if you can forgive the loss of 90 minutes a week for two years that you will never, ever get back.

Re: So Yesterday In Confirmation Class
don't debunk the confirmation class, i attended one.
mine was in orange county, under the orange county diocese in california.
my confirmation class was very forward thinking. evolution was rarely discussed and when it was everyone was encouraged to develop their own opinion on it. at the time i didn't believe in evolution, 1-2 years later i did.
some Catholics believe in evolution the scientific way, some don't. To use, it's not a huge concern.
There was some bullshit taught to use in confirmation by our teacher, a 30-40 year old suburban mom. But, It was a good environment, where the teachings of the faith were applied to current settings and situations.
