getting into heaven

ok, well here's the thing. On wednesday i had scripture at my school and i was talking to the guy taking my group and i asked him what particular sect of christianity he believed he belonged to. He said that the closest he could put himself under was protestant but he went to an anglican church because it was close. Anyways, he said that he didn't agree with catholocism because he believed that if you accepted jesus christ as your saviour then you were guaranteed a spot in heaven, whereas in catholocism you are still meant to good things and all that. I asked him what he thought if a murderer were to accept jesus christ. He replied saying that even someone like Hitler could have gotten into heaven if he had accepted jesus.

Anyways, so what are your thoughts on the matter? and obviously this is directed at christians so its pointless to simply say "yeah well thats another reason christianity is bullshit"... because i am fully aware of this.
But yes, do you think yyou only need to accept jesus into your heart? or do you still have to do good?
