In my /Dev/ folder.

Re: /dev/ file overload. Some advice please.
That does seem like alot of psuedo terminal device files, can you actually state what distribution of Linux you are running and what kernel?
Do not delete them, besides that's not the right way to fix this problem. To turn DMA on for your DVD drive, first check the BIOS to make sure it is operating at it's maximum mode. Second, use:
To switch the DMA on or off or it's UDMA mode.
All in all though, before we make too many assumptions about what is happenning here, we need your distribution version and kernel version.
Run:
Code:
hdparm -I -i /dev/sr0
That will print a list of information about the drive, also like I said about assumptions, sr0 is a 2.6.25 thing give or take, post your kernel version and distribution's release version.

Re: /dev/ file overload. Some advice please.
Run:
Code:
dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt
Then post the output of that file here.. 2.6.24 should be using udev, not devfs, and what it looks like is devfs. It's possible Ubuntu still uses devfs by default in the generic kernel releases, but I cannot know for sure unless I check. Post the results.

Re: /dev/ file overload. Some advice please.
Oh my god, you're either an idiot or extremely ill informed. NEVER delete anything in /dev/. EVER. Never delete anything outside of $HOME, unless you are ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CERTAIN you are not screwing anything up.
Try
for some information on the UNIX filesystem hierarchy.

Re: /dev/ file overload. Some advice please.
Next time you post large file output, just use
tags also, it shrinks the text slightly and will not cost three posts.
I see nothing in there showing a reason for the excessive creation of pty device files. What I suggest is, as a test.. since you are using udev and not devfs as far as the kernel is concerned.. run as root:
Code:
rm -rf /dev/* ; reboot
Now, what Pr0 said is right, never delete device files in /dev/ unless you have a good reason, in this case if your kernel really is using udev, it will recreate every device file required for anything you have or are running as a service, like secure shell for example.
If you feel like you should backup your /dev/ directory, by all means do so.. but in this case you should have only what you need when you reboot back into the system. Post the output of:
after you reboot, see what it looks like there..
Ubuntu for some reason may also have it set up in udev rules to create all those devices, why.. I'm not really sure, when on-demand device file creation has been around for a long time now. If we see there is no change after removing every file in /dev/ and rebooting, we can assume there are some funky udev rules set up and can find them using a little scripting from the shell.
