well if some of you remember about 2 months back windows died on me so i switched to ubuntu 8.10 and have been loving it ever since.

since then i have been reading the nix forum alot and i hear a lot of talk about this fedora 10

so my question is pretty simple, whats the difference between the 2
in your opinion is fedora better? as in less bugs, more driver support?

me generally being a noob on the matter and im really just curious and thinking about giving it a try

also would it run on my pc. i got a toshiba satallite a105-s4384

There isn't any difference in hardware support. Ubuntu has a lot more software in its repositories, though, and is known for being a lot more noob-friendly than Fedora. There's a reason why Ubuntu's popularity is skyrocketing and Fedora isn't really doing much.

Fedora 10 has been talked of a lot here because one of the mods is a big Red Hat devotee. It's ultimately a matter of taste, but it really looks like Ubuntu is kicking the crap out of Fedora at the moment.

Well, it's more popular for a reason. I haven't used Fedora much (at all) so I can't speak to it directly, but the Debian packaging system is known to be a lot better than Red Hat's and Ubuntu has a lot more software available to install. It's easy to get to know, and there's a massive community you can use for help and documentation.

If you're a noob, it doesn't really matter which one you install as long as you stick with it and learn the system. But it's going to be easier for a noob to learn Ubuntu because there are so many other people using it that can help you.

Sticking with something is the best thing you can do. If you distro-hop, you don't end up actually learning. Pick something and stay with it for a long time. That way you'll learn how to use and control the system.

Ok you and PirateJoe both think one thing means another apparently I need an interpreter for what you are saying, without detail.

You go from better to easier relating to good and bad, bro.. just make up your mind then post.

If your definition of "better" is "easier" sure. I don't find RPM to be that difficult myself, I like it because it is more flexible and has many more options for doing just about anything you want that you could provide in a package management system, no I don't mean package management as in:
install this
remove that

That is not my definition of package management. Managing something requires much more.

...yet fail to actually provide any real, side-by-side examples.
