Religious restrictions..

I'm not partial to any distinct religion, so notions of sin aren't much of an issue for me. I wouldn't mind knowing though, how many of you follow the "guidelines" of your religion. What boundaries do you set for yourself, what religious laws do you adhere by, and how do they interfere or improve your life?

Just curious, is all.

I don't follow them nearly as much as I should.

I'm a big fan of tattoos and premarital sex, even though that's not really adultery.

My beliefs are in reason/logic and, secondarily, equality for all humans. I follow these "guidelines" with absolute strictness (and in fact this is why I have no religion).

By following logic and reason to their conclusion, you can determine the course of action for any situation. Everything is taken on a case-by-case basis, taking into account all pertinent facts. This precludes any set of preset guidelines, as every situation is different.

I m not allowed to eat beef(from what my religion says). But I still went to mcdonalds for lunch and had a two double cheese burgers.

Ill follow my religion to a point where it is reasonable and logical, but I will not sacrifce my own desires for someone else's religous beliefs(because thats what they are).

I think most religious restrictions have basis in some practical application.

Jews and Muslims are probably restricted from eating pork because, at some point, it was a health risk.

Christian restrictions on sex probably have to do with STD's (if you only have sex with your virgin spouse, you won't get any STD's), and/or the fact that it's not usually a good thing for the child to raise a child without two parents.

Of course, birth control is bad because the church wants more Christians

Lots of children are good for the religion and expanding a society, but TOO many can be a bad thing. Look at the conditions of the Christian parts of the world compared to the Hindu and Muslim parts of the world (two religions that breed like fucking rabbits).

I may not agree with the means, but the ends cannot be disputed. Most of the Muslim and Hindu world is a fucking shithole, while the Christian-based western world is on the cutting edge of progress and high quality of life.

Hindus stopped eating beef because of changing climates(famines leading to no liquids but cows gave off milk, milk is the food of mothers, mothers are gods). Other Hindus stopped eating meat all togehter and they became Jains, Others kept eating meat and disagreed with the rest and became Sikhs.

I got a real problem with 'honor thy father and thy mother'. I mean seriously, WTF?

If you father is a drunk who comes home and beats you and your mother up all the time, and your mother is a crackhead who thinks nothing of her family except as a source of money to buy more drugs...

How can one have such blind trust and faith in one's parents if they are like this?

Because this rule is so absolute, I find it to be very flawed.

If your father comes home one night and you think that you are in danger of being permanently damaged, do you run away or do you obey when your father says 'come back here'?

I don't agree with anyone getting unconditional respect. Respect is something to be earned, and not just by the rubber breaking and popping out a child.

That's what I mean... but that idea doesn't work. Cow drink more water than they produce milk. They aren't a source of drinkable liquids if you don't already have them. If you have no water, you're not going to have cows producing milk.

Interesting topic, ive really never dwelled on it before but its a good topic. As for me I could probably follow them a little more but atleast i try (which isnt easy seeing as the closest Temple is a 2 hour drive away *sigh*). I follow kashrut to an extent. I do not own kosher dishes and i sustitute a nuetral liquid for solid in between dairy and meat. I observe the holidays and i try my best on Shabbat. I learn as much as i can and i follow about 150 of the 613 mitzah, only about 200 can be observed outside of Israel without the Temple. My biggest "downfalls" if you will are that i have a thing for tatoos and i fell in love with and plan on marrying a christian woman.

Same here. I can't get enough of tattoos. Must be the goyim in me.

Of course, I definitely plan to observe the mitzvah of making love to your wife on the shabbat.
