Adultery
n
Voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a partner other than the lawful spouse.
So if you subscribe to Christian guidelines, and noone in the relationship is married to someone other than the intended partner or neither party is married, feel free to fuck away.

Not true.
There are numerous passages in the Bible disallowing sexual contact before a legal marraige.
To answer the thread - I have had sex before marraige. My explanation is that I
have no explanation and that my actions were nonetheless
inexcusable.
It's hard to say whether or not God
expects us to follow His decree for abstinence. He has made similar decrees about respecting one's parents and prohibiting stealing - but nearly all of us are guilty of these sins on occasion. God realizes these are sins committed continuously "right under His nose," so I suppose He's pretty sure we'll break our promises to stay abstinant.
It's not so much
what we do that God concerns Himself with, although it is fair to say there is truckloads of concern there. We commit these sins anyway - it's that we always end up with Him by the end of the day, honest with ourselves about our shortcomings and asking Him for forgiveness regarding them.
