I dont think so... but if u had a program that would give the "droid" feelings, then it would...

I think it's impossible to create something that is aware of itself.

Man is the PRACTICE of the eternal feelings of another Soul.

Individuality is Soul. To describe Soul is to Describe God. Individuality is of NOW, NOW is always NOW, it can't be described, defined, believed (computer scripts):

The difference between Human and Mortal.

Define soul. In the sense of having an ethereal being divorced from its physical intelligence, no, of course not. However, some would say that the particular chemical workings of the human brain could be termed a "soul." In this sense, yes, the computer would have a soul of sorts. And the observation of this "soul" would be truly fascinating, because we really don't know what to expect from it. Computers are evolving in an entirely different environment from biological life; should be a hell of a thing to watch.

I'm more or less with Beany.

I don't think we can produce a being with actual consciousness.

However, if we could, I would claim that being has a soul.

What is a soul?

People can't agree what a soul is in humans or even if it exists. I would say that we will create AI will a level of conciousness comparable (or superior) to humans. And I will also say that some people will say that this AI has a soul.

You might find it interesting to read what the dalai lama has to say about the subject.

BUDDHIST REINCARNATION AND AI

I think its possible, but would only be as intelligant as the smartist animal can be. I believe the atribute it would be missing is a soul wich sub-concously connects with others and makes the body think and react in different ways. such as love, the human is the only creature who can love another besides its paternal parents.

A belief based on the fact that animal relationships consist of lust. Of course, this is true of some human relationships. This brings us to a new question: Do WE feel "love," as we understand it? Or are we simply justifying our own lust with flowery emotional aphorisms?
