need some quick help (Jew question)

I'm writing a review of a website for my religon class. The site is chabad.org My question is why do they omit the "o" from god and lord? everywhere its mentioned its "G-d" and "L-rd" why do they do it?

It's a sign of respect to Hashem. It's as if saying that they aren't worthy to pronounce it. I believe this stems from YHWH which is said to be the innominate and ineffable name ascribed to God... Ahem, I mean, G-d.
