I was told that Catholicism is basically a form of Paganism, but edited to look Christian, is that true?

Although, I wouldn't doubt it, a lot of their practices are weird.

It can actually be considered the first organised Christian religion. Protestants are basically the same, apart from a few minor differences. For example, Catholics hold the belief that you can only commune with God through a priest, and that the pope is God's or Jesus' replacement here on earth.

Catholics also believe that you make your own fate, that if you live virtuously you will go to heaven, whereas protestants believe in predestination, meaning that wether you go to hell or heaven is already set. In that field, I prefer catholicism ( although I'm not christian anyway, so it doesn't really matter to me).

actually, the pope is considered to be like the descendant of peter. one of the disciples of jesus. the disciple that was told by jesus that he was the rock and on that rock was where the church will be built. and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.. just wanted to correct that.

Ok since its nearing St,Patrick's day tiem for a history lesson.

In Ireland in the time of St. Patrick most of the north was pagan while most of the south was Christian. Paddy came over and lit some fire and this fire of Christianty stills in Ireland today(metaphor)

But many of our "Holy landmarks" were once pagan sites. The feast of Halloween was actually a Pagan feast where they celebrated something to so with the darkness or some bullshit like that. Christianty simply adopted that feast along with many others.

So yes you are corrected most Catholic traditions are from pagan feasts,rituals and relegions

Catholicism and modern Judaism actually have a lot in common in the way they came to be. When the Jews were enslaves in Egypt they had no written doctrine and they weren't allowed to practice, so they adopted Egyptian Book Of The Dead and rewrote it to reflect their beliefs and holidays. Now, when Catholicism evolved, it evolved because of the spread of Christianity. Christianity did spread like wildfire and on came the witch hunting. The now very powerfull Church Of Christ wanted to get rid of the pagans, which was a very difficult thing to do since pagans had been around for centuries upon centuries and Christianity was a relatively new concept.

They tried killing them all, but that made them all look very bad. So, they made a compromise and Catholicism was born. It's not really based on paganism. It's just pagan-friendly. But, it's very much Christianity.

Acutally catholics do have some holidays and some other things that are based off paganism. When they started to become catholic they didn't want to change everything and freak out all the people so they kept a few things. I know this as a fact, I went to a catholic school my whole life.
