questions about the davinci code

I went to church with my girlfriend this morning...

I have been dating her for a long time now and I'm not even going to go into what we have done etc.

anyway somedays shes a SUPER christian and otherdays she will sleep with me..

Now that we have started talking about marriage she is saying I am going to have to get stronger faith or she is really going to have to pray about it and "get an answer" from god whether or not to marry me.

Now in church they were talking about how bad the davinci code is and not to read the book or see the movie, that its a demonic etc...

I personally haven't read the book, (im not a "good" christain I am basically going through the motions because it doesn't interest me)

Anyway I am talking my girlfriend into reading the davinci code... ( I am going to start reading it tomorrow)

Will it shake her faith, or make her less of a christian etc.????

being an atheist i couldnt tell you for sure, but if your after diving knowledge then the davinci code is not the place to look. it is a pile of stinking dog shit.

good lcuk with your girl mate... perhaps if you point our her hipocricies you might shake some sence into her.

Whilst the theories and ideas in the Da Vinci code may not all be correct, it may help her to start looking at things from different angles and questioning things more.

If you really care about this girl, I'd ask her what she thinks her church is saying by being fearful of The DaVinci Code. There's no point in being faithful if you're afraid to test your faith against anything. Jesus himself taught that fear of that sort is stupid and pointless.

Any church that tells people to avoid reading a certain book isn't a church that has much confidence in its own faith.

I love her to death, but I mean I got the shit end of it, she will tell me this and that about her exs and it makes me sick that she doesn't put forth that amount of even half that amount in our relationship.

Also the church is HUGE on tything(sp) "you need to give money to get money" "the more money you give the more money you will get"

they brag about getting $30k+ every sunday, and give a "special" prayer to the people that are giving them money... I hate that church its so twisted...

... That is fucking hilarious. As soon as I read the url for that church I fell on the floor laughing. I know exactly why that church is like that. THAT IS FUCKING LUBBOCK TEXAS.

Honestly dude, I know where you are coming from. I dated a girl who I would have done anything for. She was a hardcore christian, and her church told her to stop dating me, because I was making her question her faith by putting doubt in her sacred bible.

Now the trick is to put doubt without making her angry. I went to far a couple of times and ended up destroying my relationship, then 2 years later she came back and told me I was right and wanted me back. I said no.

Basically that church is so threatened by "The Da Vinci Code" that is has to talk bad about it in church. If the church is so right, why do they feel so threatened by a "fiction" book. Also, if you want her to reject her faith, do it with something that isn't fiction. The bible is fiction, and you can't get christians believe that, but if you could then you will win.

I havn't read the book myself, but I have heard a great deal about it. The story line is that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and she had his baby and fled to France and started the royal bloodline. The book is based on Gnostic texts written by people almost 150 years after Jesus was alive, hardly a fist hand account. There are many places in the Bible that you can see they weren't married. The Gnostic Gospel of Philip provides the most evidence for them being married, it says: And the companion of the Saviour is Mary Magdalene. Christ loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. They said to him, “Why do you love her more than all of us?” The text is actually incomplete, and some of the words, such as mouth, are guesswork. If they were married, then why would the disciples be offended at Jesus kissing her on the mouth? There are also places in the Bible that have a list of the disiples that were married, but Jesus is not mentioned. The Bible mentions many times Jesus' mother and father and brother, but never a wife. From the evidence that is presented we can conclude that Jesus was not married, did not have a baby, and his wife did not flee to France. The Da Vinci code is a fiction book and will not shake anyone's faith that is serious about it.

No Shit- Scientific Evidence doesn't shake people's faith who are 'serious' about it (translation: mental weakness and dependence).
