How do you get close with God?

Being a Christian, I wonder how other christians have the whole deal where they feel God's presence, or talk with God. I'm having a hard time experiencing these kinds of things and I'm wondering what you've done to acheive it. Another question, do you think things like meditation and other eastern style principals can help acheive this too?

I thought it was a good reply personally.

They say god is everywhere so start imagining he is everywhere. Imagine god is everything you look at. Imagine he loves you and does everything for the love of you me and everything else (even if it doesn't seem so). Imagine long enough and you'll start believing and your love will grow.
