I posted this in Printed Matter, with no responses. I figured i'd get more answers to my questions here. Anyone who has read this book and knows it pretty well, could you answer this, I need 5 examples on how Elies attitude towards God and religion changed from the beginning of the book, to the end of the book.

look i read it YEARS ago n don't remember shit but lemme try to help you out

skim through the first chap or three and find out what he says about god

skim through the last (third?) of the book and see what he says then

if you can't find anything, well either just powerread through the book or my idea didn't work

hell, remember, the guy's just gone through some horrible shit, that would def change one's idea about one's god, but i dunno if that strengthened his belief or weakened it.

o it's just when i read really really fast

if i concentrate, i can understand it, but if not, i just get words and no real mental images of the story.. it helps me when i'm looking for a certain part

Well i've already read the book once, about a month ago. I just need to write the essay now, haha.

You either worded the question poorly, or your teacher is an idiot. There aren't five examples on how he loses faith in religion, because he only loses his faith once (most people do). Is your teacher looking for five reasons, maybe?

Anyways, he felt abandoned. He felt as though no God could exist while such suffering occured. He was ashamed that he had so fervently studied Kaballah. He looked down upon the people around him who still prayed to their god.

I think the exact moment he said he knew he had lost the faith was when he witnessed one prisoner being hanged, a younger boy.

Its hard to say, I haven't read the book in a few years.
