Ape Kind
by Mike C Seibert
I see the chimp up in the tree and ask myself could that be me?, a different place?, a different time? focusing more as I watch him climb. The animal of peace lacks fangs and claws, it has kind hands in stead of paws. As I see him sitting there so tame, I realize we are quite the same. Him and I have a similar face, our features are put in a quite same place. I see the chimp up in the tree, and ask my self could that be me?
I see the chimp up in the tree and wish that he could speak to me. I watch him climb and then I think could this ape be a missing link? whats the story of his kind?, could it tell the tale of mine?. He looks so peaceful sitting there, calm and cool with out a care. While looking at this chimpanzee, I realize hes observing me. What is it that he hopes to see, am I the man hed like to be?. Or does he pitty human ways, material obsess, and working days, no time for sitting in a tree, I wish that he could speak to me.
Damn the knowledge I obtain
damn my massive human brain.
Damn the weapons
damn the war
damn this world that I adore.
Every day we make it worse
perhaps our knowledge is our curse.
If we were smarter then wed be
just like the ape up in the tree
