More on Bertold Brecht
THE PAST IN REVIEW
The following is a miscellany, representing some of the more
interesting experiments in Brecht productions over the past
couple of years. They are indicative of the vitality of Poor BB,
despite premature announcements of his passing into the deadly
arena of a CLASSIC playwright. They also illustrate the "quirky"
nature of Brecht reputation:
Two simultaneous productions of _Conversations_ in New York, a
play which had previously been avoided like the plague.
A dual language production of _Carrar_, one night in Spanish, one
night in English.
A production of _Threepenny_ with the performers wearing beast
masks, based upon 17th century performance sketches.
From Washington State to the Lyon Opera Ballet, Brecht still
intrigues directors and makes audiences a bit less complacent.
