Practically everyone now must have heard of the MS-DOS game DOOM by now. In
fact, it has become rather a way of life among some. People play it til all
hours in the morning. Some probably even play it too much. To help people
decide if they have been playing it for too long, I found this guide.
You know you've been playing DOOM too long when . . .
. . . You put DOOM's OS on your hard disk's boot block.
. . . You keep looking at cars' license plates hoping to find the BFG9000.
. . . You try to kill the spider-demon at the end with nothing but
a chainsaw, just to see how long it takes.
. . . You flinch whenever you walk on green carpet.
. . . Your dreams are in low-rez VGA.
. . . Every time the hard disk swaps out, the real world slows down too.
. . . You've written a patch which replaces the monsters with
digitised images of your boss.
. . . You play it better with this patch.
. . . You play this version at work, but to be safe you install a
"boss key" that turns the monsters back to the originals.
. . . You turn the brightness down on all your other applications
because you're used to the gloom in DOOM.
. . . You grin maniacally every time you pick up a chainsaw.
. . . You walk around inside your house for 6 hours, pressing the walls
*just in case*.
. . . You walk around your house, and you actually *find something*.
. . . The something you find kills you.
. . . You're in a nightclub, the strobes are flashing, and you have
this sudden urge to blast away anything that moves.
