Jail trusty locked out after he sneaks out

PERU, Ind. (UPI) _ A jail trusty who sneaked out to go drinking at a
downtown bar was locked out upon returning and locked up after that.

Nick Crow, a trusty serving time on an alcohol-related charge at the Miami
County jail, let himself out a side door of the jail near his work area Tuesday
and went to the Korner Lounge, Sheriff Jack Rich said.

Crow returned early Wednesday but found the side door locked. Another inmate
Crow had asked to let him back in had been locked in his cell for the night,
Rich said.

A jail officer let Crow in at the front door but Crow's trusty status was
revoked and he no longer will have the freedom to move about in the jail. ___

'Chicago's Got It,' writer doesn't

CHICAGO (UPI) _ A songwriter says he wrote it, he submitted it, but now
``Chicago's Got It'' and he wants it back.

Darrow Kennedy, 42, of Justice, filed suit in federal court Thursday
charging the city stole its tourism slogan ``Chicago's Got It'' from a song he
wrote and copyrighted in 1983.

The suit seeks an injunction against use of the phrase by city or state
offices of tourism and unspecified financial damages.

Kennedy submitted his song to city and state tourism offices during a call
for a new city song by former Mayor Jane Byrne. The refrain, ``Chicago's got
it'' figured prominently in the song, said attorney Mark Barinholtz.

An unidentified advertising agency reportedly contacted Kennedy in 1988 to
tell him the song was of no use to the city, according to Barinholtz.

But, since then, the slogan turned up on signs at O'Hare International
Airport and Midway Airport and in brochures distributed outside the city since
last September.

The logo could still be used on mugs, shirts and other paraphernalia, though
no contracts have yet been signed, said city spokeswoman Terry Levin. ___

Thieves 'kid' around with zoo animal

TOLEDO, Ohio (UPI) _ Three men got the goat of the Toledo Zoo _ literally.

A routine early morning traffic stop Thursday led to the discovery of a kid
goat in the back seat of a car. The goat, a 7-month-old African Pygmy, was
reported stolen by two people who climbed a fence at the zoo and took the
animal from its pen.

Police stopped a car a short distance from the zoo after getting a report it
was weaving and discovered the black and white animal on the lap of a back seat
passenger.

The animal was returned to the zoo and Mark Oden, 22, Charles Johnson, 29,
and Kevin Depew, 23, were charged with receiving stolen property, a variety of
traffic offenses and having outstanding warrants.
