								| | Chronology of ST and ST:TNG eventsFinally, there are some (isolated, at best) references to the calendar yearin Star Trek! So it is finally possible to prepare a <real> chronology for
Star Trek. I have used the various (i.e. two) references to the real "year"
given in ST:TNG--"Encounter at Farpoint" and "Cause and Effect" and some
 other assumptions:

 1) 5 years for Kirk's mission aboard the Enterprise, in the old series.
 2) 2 years between ST:TOS and the first movie.
 3) 10 years between the first and second movies.
 4) The second, third, fourth, and fifth movies all take place in the same
 year:
--ST II, III, and IV formed a trilogy.
--ST V followed directly from ST IV (the Enterprise-A's debut)
 5) 10 years between ST V and VI.
 6) As has been said many times, 78 years went by between the "old"
Trek and ST:TNG. When ST:TNG began, ST IV was the "current" state
of the old Trek, so I took it from there.
 7) ST:TNG's first season took place in 2364. ("The Neutral Zone")
 8) One season of ST:TNG equals one calendar year. (This was a fairly
 big assumption by me.) So: 1st season = 2364, 2nd season = 2365,
 3rd season = 2366, 4th season = 2367, 5th (current) season = 2368.
 9) 13 years went by between Christopher Pike and James Kirk. (ST:TOS
"The Menagerie") This is probably an even BIGGER assumption, even
though Spock states it directly. We don't know whether the thing
with the Talosians takes place at the beginning, middle, or end of
 Pike's tenure.

 Ok, so here goes:

2166 -- Sarek of Vulcan is born.
2227 -- Leonard McCoy is born (Georgia, United States, Earth).
2256 -- U.S.S. Enterprise, Capt. Christopher Pike in command, encounters
 the Talosians.
2269 -- Enterprise begins 5-year mission with James T. Kirk as captain.
2274 -- Enterprise returns to Earth. Kirk promoted to Admiral, becomes
Chief of Starfleet Operations; marries Adm. Lori Ciana.
 2276 -- The V'Ger incident. Kirk's wife is killed in a transporter
 accident. (ST:TMP)
2278 -- U.S.S. Bozeman, Capt. Morgan Bateson commanding, mysteriously
vanishes after leaving starbase. (ST:TNG "Cause and Effect")
2286 -- The Genesis crisis; Enterprise destroyed; Spock recovered; Kirk
and crew return in a stolen Klingon vessel. (ST II and III)
2286 -- The Whalesong crisis. Enterprise-A leaves for first cruise, and
is promptly spacejacked by Sybok. (ST IV and V)
2288 -- The last Soyuz-class starship is retired from active service.
 (ST:TNG "Cause and Effect")
2296 -- The Khitomer Conference. After much space battle,
 Enterprise-A is decommissioned. (ST VI)
2344 -- Enterprise-C (commanded by Capt. Rachel Garrett) is destroyed
in battle with the Romulans at Norendra Three. (ST:TNG "Yesterday's
 Enterprise")
2364 -- Enterprise-D, commanded by Jean-Luc Picard, embarks on its
first voyage. (137-year-old Admiral Leonard McCoy visits briefly.)
2366 -- Enterprise-C emerges, into an alternate future where Starfleet
is fighting the Klingons. (ST:TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise")
2366 -- Starfleet and the Borg begin a series of skirmishes. (ST:TNG
"The Best of Both Worlds Part One")
2367 -- Borg massacre the Starfleet force at Wolf 359. Soon after,
the Borg are destroyed, thanks to Starfleet intervention. (ST:TNG
"The Best of Both Worlds Part Two")
2367-2368 -- Klingon civil war, between Romulan-backed Duras
family, and loyalist Klingons following Gowron (ST:TNG "Redemption
I and II"), ending in victory for Gowron.
2368 -- Sarek of Vulcan dies, at age 202. His son, Spock, travels in
secret to Romulus, to stir pro-unification sentiment. (ST:TNG
 "Unification")
 2368 -- U.S.S. Bozeman emerges from a time-warp, and narrowly
avoids a collision with the Enterprise. (ST:TNG "Cause and Effect")
