Soul Society..what?

So here is something I don't get about Bleach's Soul Society. Soul Reapers send the souls of people that just died here before they linger and turn into hollows right? Well if the Soul Society contains departed souls, then why do Repears come from there and how are they born?

Why do Shinigami age when no one else in Soul Society seems to?

I think thats a little thing you have to read between the lines with. Same story kinda explains it. Only those with significant spirit energy will age. The expenditure ages them.
They are also the only people who eat, since food regains their expended powers.
