What am I doing wrong?

I'm running ubuntu and I'm trying to run the installer disk for my new monitor.

you have to make sure your in the right directory
but that set aside, im pretty sure, running your monitor through wine is really, really resource ineffecient, and you could probably take the time to find whatever it is you need for the monitor in a linux version
what is it you need in particular? does the monitor work at all?
last time i checked most monitors dont care what operating system your running

why are you running as root?

also, i assume you have installed the app you want to use in wine? it's just like anything, you can't use the program unless it's there. if you have installed it, through nautalis look through /root/.wine and try and find the program and run it from there.

I was trying to load the disk for my monitor with the appropriate drivers.

I found drivers but my resolution is suffering and I can't get all the features to work correctly, such as the card reader.

My priority now is just the resolution. I need it to run at 1440x900 while it will only let me go up to 1024x768.

It's a "ViewSonic"

The booklet says VX1945wm LCD display.

is the monitor not run through a vga or dvi or hdmi cable? is it like USB
ive never heard of a monitor needing drivers before

they are not so much drivers as random stuff like gamma and temperature correction. adobe make something similar. basically the only thing they are good for is wasting resources.
