I tried some lo mein last week and I was dead set on making my own. I followed this
recipe for the most part, most importantly half proportions as I'm the only on eating it.
I got some smoked ham chops for meat and marinated them for two hours in a mixture of soy, oyster, and teryaki sauce. I didnt half proportion the sauce mix, though, and added alot more sugar than was called for.
I couldnt find some egg noodles at WalMart, even in the oriental section, so I substituted spaghetti. After cooking it, though, its too large, so I'll try angel hair next time.
I did add alot more oil than I needed, but its still really good. I'm actually surprised it went so well for my first time to cook something harder than ramen. The smoked flavor is interesting, but I think it might be too much.
So, wht was your first dish and how did it turn out?
