Delta Force

So i just got off the phone with the Army recruiter even though Im going SEALs. He said why not go for Delta Force? I thought that they were the best of the best of the Spec Ops and werent part of any branch. Can anybody shed some light on this?

They're Army. They recruit from other Spec Ops forces. Special Forces is technically the whole Army SF Green Berets, not anything else. You need SF experience to join, so you might as well try out after DEVGRU if you want.

being that your on totse, i dont think your gonna make it to be delta, you cant just go straight. seals an delta you have to have so many years already in before you can even be considered for training.

You can go straight to BUDS. You don't need any years under your belt.

Delta is basically the US equivalent of the Brit SAS, IIRC i remember reading you need to be SF (Ranger was mentioned in what i was reading) for 3 years before you can attempt the delta selection.

I'd recommend reading more first, Totse isn't the best place to ask.

Random, just in case you weren't aware DEVGRU is kind of like a part of SEALs, being it replaced ST6. The way you used it seemed like you were representing SEALs as a whole with it. Sort of like people misuse Special Forces in place of Special Operation Forces.

As for CAG, Delta, SFOD-D, whatever. You can't go straight into it. Once you get your e-4 they even send you recruitment e-mails. You goto selection, you pass. What happens? They send you to SF and you spend time there, then come back. We had a guy from our Recon platoon go, pass selection, e-6 type with several deployments, multiple schools, ect. What'd they say? You're not old enough, militaryily speaking, so they sent him to SF. Spend a few years there and come back. He didn't have to go through SF selection and he's suppose to not have to go back through CAG selection.

As for Eric Haney, I've read there are a lot of people in the community upset with him. But if you want a good read, I believe it's Inside Delta Force. It details the selection phase, training, ect. He also helped produce the show The Unit.

You just pointed out a mistake I've made very frequently without any second thought. Thank you. I can't remember how many times I've erroneously generalized like that.
