You have to be intellegent on At least a minor level to enjoy Tool's music.

Like you.

I think everyone likes them because of one, the atmosphere their music creates, two, they're the most mainstream "prog rock/metal" band around today, and three, their live shows are said to be off the proverbial chain.

Tool barely uses odd time signatures, and their orchestrations are nothing like King Crimson, Dream Theater or Rush AT ALL.
They are simply psychedelic rock.
Don't use terms you don't understand.

I don't like them either, they just don't do anything for me. All of my friends who listen to rock say they are amazing, but I'm like ehh.

And you obviously haven't listened to the lyrics.

Whats your point?
Rush's orchestrations aren't anything like King Crimsons either. Or Dream Theaters for that matter.

Yeah, that song 46 & 2 is nothing like King Crimson's Frame By Frame.

Re: Tool
I like them a lot, but I think many people overrate them too much. They have created a unique sound within the progressive rock genre, which many people consider it to fall into the category of "love it, or hate it".
