Shooting in yard(idea) = Cops?

Hiyo, I was thinking about getting my .22 and 12gauge back from my dad, and thinking about buying a remington 700 to start up my own gun collection much like my dad which has enough firepower to start his own war.

However, Theres no gun ranges in desirable driving distance including fathers house.

So I was planning on shooting in my backyard nothing excessive, Maybe once a week if that..and only a few 20 or so rounds..I kinda live in the country but not anymore..I mean my neighborhood isnt the type that where you take a leak someone next door can hear you.

We are each on about 2 acres of land, Theres woods behind my field which is where id be shooting, But only about an acre.

Id probally build some sort of bullet trap.(I was thinking of sticking 6 or so of those giant fat post in the ground to make a big n(The ones boats used to tie the rope to)

However, Could I get in any major trouble for shooting? Like if the cops were called id imagine the worst that could happen is a warning for disturbance of peace?

Anyone have shoot in housing areas and the cops were called?

Check out your laws, here it's against the law to shoot within 500m of a house or 1km from a town boundary if my memory serves me right

Should be alright, I mean its not like you're right next door to anyone lol

Massachusetts General Laws - Crimes Against Public Peace - Chapter 269, Section 12E

Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling or other building in use; exceptions.

"Section 12E. Whoever discharges a firearm as defined in section one hundred and twenty-one of chapter one hundred and forty, a rifle or shotgun within five hundred feet of a dwelling or other building in use, except with the consent of the owner or legal occupant thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than fifty nor more than one hundred dollars or by imprisonment in a jail or house of correction for not more than three months, or both. The provisions of this section shall not apply to (a) the lawful defense of life and property; (b) any law enforcement officer acting in the discharge of his duties; (c) persons using underground or indoor target or test ranges with the consent of the owner or legal occupant thereof; (d) persons using outdoor skeet, trap, target or test ranges with the consent of the owner or legal occupant of the land on which the range is established; (e) persons using shooting galleries, licensed and defined under the provisions of section fifty-six A of chapter one hundred and forty; and (f) the discharge of blank cartridges for theatrical, athletic, ceremonial, firing squad, or other purposes in accordance with section thirty-nine of chapter one hundred and forty-eight."
