I got 30 grams of wormwood for around $11 shipped from www.mazatecgarden.com after reading about smoking wormwood in erowid. The reports I had read mentioned mixing it 50:50 with weed, which I did. It tastes foul if you smoke it; mixing 50:50 with weed is not so much for effect as it is to improve the taste. The effects are mild, but very pleasant.
I did some research and learned that thujone, the active chemical in wormwood, evaporates at 201c, one degree above THC. With this in mind, I packed some into my vaporizer. Vaporized, the taste is not bad at all. Expect a bowl of wormwood to take a while to start putting off a lot of vapor, and then expect it to burn up quickly. Oddly, there was a cherry the last time I did this (this morning), which is unusual for the vaporizer.
Anyway, one tightly packed bowl of wormwood in the vaporizer is enough to feel the effects. The high is not terribly unlike that of marijuana (it is believed that thujone acts upon the same receptors as THC) minus the munchies, giddiness, and short term memory loss (time perception, however, is there to some extent). What you get is a mild, mellow, sedated high. For $11/30 grams, it is hardly a poor substitute for more amusing substances in dry spells, and it compliments other drugs nicely (I have tried it with marijuana and salvia divinorum).
CAUTION: Thujone is classified as a convulsant poison. It is also associated with the cumulative brain damage caused by frequent use of absinthe, though many sources suggest that there are enough other psychoactive chemicals in absinthe (6 to be exact, excluding alcohol and thujone) that this brain damage could be caused by another chemical entirely.
