Canadian Recruitment Reaches Record Levels!

Good news! More and more men and women from all walks of life have chosen to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces with the intent of fighting in Afghanistan. Everyone from 17 year olds to a 54 year old woman have enlisted in a recent recruiting drive. Overall, recruitment is up 40% with 3,400new troops entering the military from April.

Dr. Hubert of the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary gave this explanation for the dramatic rise in enlistment in Canada: “We're at war. But we're on the side of the angels. We are stopping the Taliban from its murderous intent against its own population, so that's human security. And we are in this war to ensure that al-Qaeda is not given a breathing space, so it's Canadian national security. What can be more stirring to a Canadian youth than to know you are participating in that?”

Why should it fall to somebody else to have to do the actual fighting in a cause that Canada has a vested interest in? Are you suggesting that Canadian troops lack the ability, or that it's better to let some other nation put its soldiers in harm's way on Canada's behalf?

The Taliban are not the only people in Afghanistan, in fact they represent extremists from a minority group who have killed thousands of civilians, fought to keep foreign aid from entering what was left of their country after the Soviet occupation ended, and committed a very long list of grievous human rights abuses.

And, as if that weren't enough, they actively involved themselves in training operatives to attack the West and those friendly to it, harboured hostile foreign nationals (like Osama Bin Laden), and imprisoned and tortured NGO aid workers.

I'd say Canada had pretty good justification to go into Afghanistan and put an end to these people.

Canada hasn't lost a war yet, and the Taliban have proven to be inept soldiers and cowards in every engagement they've fought against western forces to date. Things look pretty good for Canada.

But if you feel so sympathetic to the Taliban cause, and want them to triumph so badly, why don't you go to Afghanistan and join them? Be sure to wear a shirt with your username on it in big letters. With any luck I'll see you there... through my C79.
