Windows XP file sharing

So i need to transfer all my music from my old computer to my laptop. All the folders i need are shared, and both computers are in the same small LAN. I googled and i couldnt really find how to access my old computer with my laptop to find the shared files.

Now, at my friends house he has like a 5 computer LAN because there is always a ton of people there, and you can just type //ip address, the ip of the computer with the shared file and access it that way and i tried that with my laptop and it doesnt work.

My old computer is wired through a link sys wireless router/switch and my laptop is using the wireless. Both computers are using Windows XP home edition. Any help would be great.

Doesnt the Windows XP cd have a file transferring thingy on it?

Run the Networking Wizard on both computers and enable File and Printer Sharing.

so i made sure both computers enable file sharing and i ran a disk to install file sharing and stuff. What command do i use to access the old computer? i tried the // and it doesnt work

You don't need to know a command - go into My Network Places and your network shares should appear in there.

You might need to reboot the machines after running the wizard even if it doesn't tell you to.

its backslash not forward slash.

\\server

\\computername

should work flawlessly.
