Default Which gun???

ok, i do not own a gun, but have shot many before and am going to get one for christmas. even though ive shot many guns, im not any expert at it by any means. soooo id like to know, in your opinion, what is the best all round gun.
All round meaning:

Can be used on varmint hunts and big game hunts (deer etc)
Fun to shoot (nice kickback)
Ammo doesent cost a load
Looks nice
Practical
Scopable
Usable without scope (not required, but would be nice)

Ive been doing plenty of research, but cant decide. Should i go with a bolt action, or a semi automatic?
Traditional rifle style or assault rifle style?
I was seriously considering one of those Romanian made AK-47's. Maybe a SKS?
im concerned with the accuracy of those guns though...
I was looking at a remmington 770, or a savage 10.... id love to find that Walther bullpup (g22?) rifle in 9mm or 40 cal.... just looking for some advice.

I recommend going for a .22 as your first firearm caliber. It's cheap, fun, and a practical cartridge for most normal uses.

.22, probably one of the most useful calibers you'll ever own. I have had a Marlin 925 for quite awhile, and I have to say that I have used it more than any other firearm I've purchased.

Edit:

Thats not true, Its fine for putting holes in paper, putting holes in varmints (ala groundhog), and if push comes to shove a person. The firearms themselves are cheap, the ammo for it is cheap, relatively quite, accurate out to 75 yards easy, and its easy to maintain.

Perhaps a good 12ga shotgun? You can fire many types of shot, slugs, hunt with it, shoot bargain shells, it'll have a nice push on the shoulder, and be a potential home defense weapon. If interested, we could offer advice.

Buy an SKS. Not the most accurate things in the world, but it's a good first gun, then you can move on up to your AR-15 or something.

.204 ?

Load it with 50grain Berger heads and it'll take small deer.
Load it lighter and it'll zap varmints.

I started out (with hand guns) on the 9X19MM and do not regret it.

Cheap enough to shoot frequently.
With premium hollow point ammunition it makes for an excellent self defense caliber.

However many years later I ended up purchasing a twenty two (hand gun) and it gets a lot of range use to date.

The best all-round gun, as has been mentioned, is a 12 gauge pump shotgun. It will fire a wide variety of ammo, is simple, powerful, and reliable, can be used for hunting of almost all sizes of North American game, and is one of the best self defense firearms.

It sounds like you're more looking for a rifle, though.

The first question would be: where do you live? This will determine what you're actually allowed to purchase and own.

The second would be: what is your budget? No point in having M1A dreams if all you have is SKS finances.
