Evoenix on the Reform of Social Security

by Vajlea

With no specifics, this document will push foreword a new idea for the inefficient, misused system of social security we use in the United States. Our common ideal for such a system includes a case-by-case system in which only the truly needy can get help for work they cannot do. To remind you, I know this may sound ideal, but it would work under certain conditions, and Eveonix fights for those conditions.

There are three major statutes to a reform.

  1. Case by case establishment in which each person is screened and questioned to the best of either their own or their caretaker’s ability. This would work much like a prison parole board, in which experienced, unbiased (to the best of human ability), and yet compassionate people are appointed to assess whether or not and Individual may need social security. These criteria will most likely include a physical (free of or reduced cost, depending on the situation), a psychological exam, if possible, a family study, and also an assessment of the person’s abilities – in other words, if there is a job for them, what it might be.
  2. There will be a work program alternative that is put before the money is actually given. Social security will be a place where someone could seek a job suited for person of limited abilities (and given job security – this is why we believe that a council of such might be necessary.) It would also set up a budget plan and monitor their activities at work and play. It would be better if instead of letting loose the social security dependent, they were observed more closely and given more incentive to not waste their time, effort, or money – especially if something is not working.
  3. Money will only be given directly to the individual’s care if they are not able to work or support themselves. This again would be decided by the board of study. The criteria for this would most likely range from things like inability to think in a rational way at most times of the day and night to extreme catatonic or spastic physical anomalies. In addition to being reserved for these individuals, most of the money will be reserved specifically for fulfilling the needs of this one individual. Some will be allotted for other things – because even handicapped people need fun. If there is anything that they can attain that will lessen any pain they may undergo because of hardship in treatment or mere condition alone, this should also be provided for.

Other things include tinkering with the system to make clerks and offices easier to communicate with, reach, and ask questions to. This is important because if we were to structure a budget or medical plan with the money, it could lead to confusion, and the whole system should be more open to the people’s needs anyway.

If you’re wondering why I use the term money so much (considering that to fully understand the ideal behind this you should first refer to Manifesto of a New World, also posted here on Totse) it’s because a system of currency might still be necessary. If the world saw fit that the social security system was still a need in a society without currency, than money would be replaced with basic needs and services. Social security is not about giving away free money to anyone lazy enough to fake a handicap – it was designed to help those who could not help themselves. This is the ideal that we wish to preserve to the best of our ability.
